I have figured out my values – now what?
- Once you have identified and listed your values, the next step is to decide what to do and then make a plan to do it.
- You must commit to yourself. This is different than fighting to push the pain to the side or push through the pain. Instead, it is allowing the pain to be present, with an attitude of willingness, and making sure your choices and actions are in-line with your values, even when you’re experiencing pain.
- Taking a committed action may involve using strategies you learned in other Steps of this program to maintain focus on your values and act in service of them.
How do I start taking action?
- Start by choosing one of your values. Find an example of a small, achievable action that can lead to living your value. It can be an everyday action such as answering the phone when a friend calls, choosing to get together with someone you haven’t seen for a while, or choosing to get out of bed one morning when the pain is really strong.
- Commit to taking these actions consistently, one at a time.
